'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' the sequel of 'The Rise Of Cobra' has hit $41.2 million, a highest debut earner this weekend. Introducing for the first time together Dwayne Johnson aka "The Rock" and Bruce Willis to the sequel of the action series.
The movie was postponed last year to convert it to 3D and the delay made it among the top debut earners of all time. Paramount pictures initiated with a huge campaign in February with an expensive demonstration ad at super bowl, but in May 2012 it announce the delay in film's release in order to add special 3D effects to it. For Bruce Willis it's the highest-ever debut earner and of Dwayne Johnson it's the second highest.
The movie was released in cinemas at midnight of 28th March 2013 generating a total earning of $51.7 million dollar till date. According to some Hollywood sources the movies capitalized a total of $132 million at worldwide box office, boasting as the highest earner on Easter holiday.
Other movies at this weekend like 'Tyler Perry's Temptation' starring Jurnee Smollet-Bell and Lance Gross performed above expectation at no. 3 with a total of $22.3 million, while "The Host", a science fiction movie featuring Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons earned the 6th spot with a modest $11 million dollar.
Overall, it was an above average show at this weekend's box office compared to the previous one when "The Hunger Games" dominated the second weekend with $58.5 million.
